At Alaska West Air, Inc., we provide transportation for premier Alaska hunting trips in Kenai, AK, designed for the ultimate adventure seeker. Brown Bear Hunts – Transportation Only
Experience the thrill of hunting Alaska’s iconic brown bears. These hunts are exclusive to residents and take place in the spring or fall.
- Cost: Starting at $3,500 per person
- Additional Cost: $500 to transport a bear from the field
Black Bear Hunts – Transportation Only
With a three-bear limit in most areas, our black bear hunts offer a unique and exciting opportunity to maximize your success.
- Cost: Starting at $3,500 per person
- Additional Cost: $500 for each bear after the first
Additional Costs:
- Extra gear / mid season supply drop (Unit 16B Only) – $1000
- Mid season location change (if schedule allows) – $1500pp
- Meat transportation from Alaska West Air to Processor – $100
Moose Hunts
Few experiences rival the excitement of an Alaskan moose hunt. We offer transportation in three prime areas:
Unit 16B – Transportation Only
- Open to residents and non-residents
- Includes the chance to hunt black bear as well
- Resident Cost: $3,500 per person, plus $750 per moose
- Non-Resident Cost: $5,500 per person, plus $1,000 per moose
- Weight Limit: 100 lbs per person, plus weapon
Unit 17B – Transportation Only
- A ten-day minimum is recommended, and trips are best suited for groupsof two or more.
- Cost: $7,500 per person (resident and non-resident)
- Weight Limit: 100 lbs per person, plus weapon
Unit 18 – Transportation Only
- This hunt on the Lower Yukon River gives hunters a unique opportunity to travel to the remote native village of St. Mary’s. Hunters will be transported via either airplane or boat to their drop off area.
- Resident Cost: $10,000 per person
- Non-Resident Cost: $15,000 per person
- Weight Limit: 100 lbs pp, plus weapon

These are merely suggested items. You are responsible for bringing all the gear you need for your hunt.
Hunters are limited to 100lbs. of gear plus one firearm.

Most clients either mail or ship their gear up ahead of the hunt. Allow at least 3 weeks for this.

Licenses / Regulations
Licenses and Tags – these MUST be purchased online – give at least 4 weeks prior to your hunt so they can be mailed to you. Hunting licenses are $160.00 and moose tags are $800.00. You can see more on this at http://www.admin.adfg.state.ak.us/license/.
You can get a copy of the hunting regulations from the ADF&G, or find them online at: http://www.adfg.alaska.gov/index.cfm?adfg=wildliferegulations.main be sure and familiarize yourself with the regulations that pertain to the area you are hunting in.
You CANNOT hunt the same day you fly in Alaska. We will get you into the field in plenty of time for you to set up camp and get oriented to the area so you can hunt early the next day!
Before you fly out for your hunt, we will need the following information from you, so please have these items handy at check-in on the day you fly into the field:
- Hunting license number, name / address / phone number of each person on hunt, Information on who will take care of any meat that comes in ahead of you, an emergency
contact – name / relationship / phone number - You may be required to watch the ADF&G movie “Is This Moose Legal?” This is available from Fish and Game. This is required if you are hunting moose in Unit 17B.
- For ALL non-residents, a Moose Hunter Orientation quiz is now required, this is available on the Alaska Fish and Game website.
Regulations
Unit 16B – Harvest Tag / Season Aug 20-Sept 25 – One bull with spike-fork antlers or 50-inch antlers or antlers with 3 or more brow tines on at least one side.
Unit 17B – Harvest Tag / Season Sept 5 – Sept 15 – One bull with 50-inch antlers or antlers with 4 or more brow tines on at least one side.
Unit 18 – Harvest Tag / Season Sept 1 – Sept 30 – One antlered bull
Non-resident Moose and Caribou hunters are required to view videos titled “Field Care of Big Game” and “Is This Moose Legal”, for hunts in some units in Alaska. We do drop hunts in these units. The video is available from the Alaska Department of Fish and Game. If you have booked a Moose hunt, you need to view the video.
General Information
Deposits / Payments
Hunt deposits and booking fees can be paid with personal check or cashier’s check. The balance is due 60 days before the date of the departure into the field and that can be paid with personal orcashier’s check. Alaska West Air does NOT accept credit cards for any hunts!
Booking / Cancellation Policy
For hunts booked a year or more in advance, we require a $1,000 non-refundable booking fee. The remainder of the first 50% will be due within a year from the flyout date. Please note that this is not an additional $1,000 being added to the cost of the hunt. Hunts cancelled 180 days or more from the start date will be refunded the amount of the deposit, less the $1,000 ooking fee. Hunts cancelled 179 days or less from the start date will not be refunded, unless the person cancelling the hunt fills the vacancy, in which case, a refund would be issued minus the $1,000 booking fee.
Miscellaneous Information:
Weather can fluctuate greatly during August / September. Days can be warm – 50 to 70 degrees, with periods of wind and rain. Nights can be cooler at 40 to 60 degrees, and toward the end of September even down to freezing.
We highly recommend that you bring an InReach or SAT phone on your hunt! These are for any emergency, or if you have an animal down, want to extend your hunt, or to let us know what the
weather is doing on your pickup day. You can rent a SAT phone or bring your own (before coming, make sure it is compatible with Alaska, not all SAT phones work here) – or they can be rented locally from Peninsula Aero Tech 907-283-1441, OR from Curtis Dunham who can be contacted by email at [email protected].
We do NOT store or process meat. You must make arrangements for any meat that comes out ahead of you BEFORE you go into the field. There are several processors in the area (see below). They do everything from cold storage to full processing of your game. You can also donate any meat you don’t want to take home. This MUST be in place before you go into the field – we do not have facilities to take care of game. There is a $100.00 charge to transport meat / antlers to the processor. If you are local, you will give us the name and number of who will pick up any meat / trophy that comes in ahead of you.

Please NOTE: When it comes to transporting your moose rack out of the field, we do NOT fly European mounts. If you wish to have a European mount, you can cut off the nose off at the burrs and reattach it later.
The Alaska Department of Fish and Games regulatory year runs from July 1 to June 30 . The regulations are subject to change mid- summer, and Alaska West Air, Inc. cannot be held responsible for regulation changes that affect your hunt. We are willing to work with you to find an acceptable alternative if the booked hunt cannot happen due to regulation changes
